Why is it important to securely erase virtual machine data?

Securely erasing data on virtual machines is essential to protect privacy, comply with regulations such as GDPR or HIPAA, and prevent data leaks. Secure deletion prevents unauthorized access and the risk of data breaches, maintaining customer trust and company reputation. In addition, it enables efficient reuse of resources in cloud and virtualization environments. Complying with security and privacy standards is crucial for companies in the management of virtual data, ensuring the integrity of the information and mitigating possible risks associated with the handling of sensitive data.

Technical specifications

Automation, installation and user management

  • Automatic
  • Option 1: The portal itself (management tool) calls the secure erase of all virtual machines in action via HTTP POST using a REST API at the ESXi host server level. Install a VIB package on the ESXi host servers.
  • Option 2: Full integration into VMware's vCloud Director to replace the erasure command with Blancco's secure wipe of all virtual machines at the ESXi host server level.
  • Semi-automatic: Integrates directly with the vCenter Server user interface so users can securely wipe virtual machines with a simple click.
  • Manual:
  • Option 1: On-demand erasure of virtual machines hosted on ESXi host servers. It is done by uncompressing a tarball and issuing delete commands over SSH.
  • Option 2: Type 2 hypervisors installed on Windows operating systems receive a standard .EXE installation package. Delete commands are issued through the command prompt.

Reports

  • Erasure reports ensure compliance with standards and regulations such as PCI DSS, ISO 27040 and ISO 27001
  • Centralized, digitally signed and tamper-proof reporting options
  • Detailed reports in PDF format for better visualization and XML files for centralized reporting
  • Option to add custom fields according to the process requirements
  • Detailed reports include everything necessary to ensure compliance (exact time, virtual machine name,
